Google Home Review - The HomePod Challenger

The Google Home has concluded that no one even wants to buy it anywhere in the market.

But is it that trash?

But still, there’s a decent number of interested people in this good old smart speaker.

So, in this post, I would be doing an in-depth review of the original Google Home and how it holds up in 2020.

Design

First up, there’s not a lot going on around this device even though it is a smart speaker, like a crazy display or anything.

But if you were to use the Google Assistant from your phone right now, there’s a lot of things that you can do with it.

But talking about this device, it’s pretty much limited to its built-in software.

But, looking at the future, I see where the Amazon Alexa devices are booming up if no any other company comes to rise soon, but in that note, at the same time, Apple’s HomePod will also be a direct competitor, which I would love to see them integrating Siri into more flexible devices like Amazon currently offers.

But even though a lot of people still use the Google Home daily for various activities and use them with a ton of features, I personally, for now, would stick with another modern Virtual Assistant Smart Speaker, unless Google releases an allrounder Smart Speake which would be cool to use and offers a ton more modern feature.

Even though Google Home doesn’t offer what its competitors offer, but at the end of the day, the Google Home is still a cool Smart Speaker and still holds some value in 2020!

But, speaking of Goggle’s new offering with the rebranding of their devices with Nest, now, they got a whole bunch of cool gadgets to play with.

Back to the topic,

From my point of view, I guess the reason why the Google Home did not do well in the market was that anyone could pick up their phone, talk to it and get almost the same number of features that you can get out of a Google Home, so they did not see an apparent reason why to pick up one for their armory except the fact that it is louder and has better microphones than your phone.

Display

Now, looking up at the Google Home, it still looks pretty cool with the glowing rotating virtual assistant animation on its pixelated display on the top, which is pretty fun to watch. When you turn it on for the first time, it displays the Google logo in its top pixelated display, which is also a confidence booster for me.

Features

The Google Home comes with some pretty cool features which would satisfy you with your daily life for sure.

You can turn off the volume if not turn it down if you’d prefer but circle your finger around the top of the Google Home, which is pretty cool.

It’s almost like a magician trying to do some magic to turn the volume up and down.

You can also talk and ask Google’s virtual assistant to turn to volume down, too, if you prefer to go that way without any physical contact with the device.

And having that fantastic pixelated screen on the top looks cool more than anything that you see in the Google Home, at least for me personally;]

So, technically speaking, the main reason why I would use Google Home is most likely to play some music most of the time, which you too can do by just talking to it.

Try saying, “Hey Google, Play some Trap Bass Beats,” and it will pull up a song playlist in that genre and will play for you to keep you happy and relaxed, which s also a pretty cool feature.

And its also actually a pretty good that the fact that you don’t have to sign in to Spotify or any other music streaming platform to listen to music, and I personally like that for a hassle-free experience, without just having to sign in every time I ask her to play something which makes people pretty irritated and angry.

But if you choose to login to Spotify or Apple Music or any other streaming platform it supports, you can then ask her to play any of your favorite saved playlists or even the trending hit beats.

You can also ask her about whether which is a pretty prominent feature, which is something that’s always promoted as in their advertisements.

And at the end of the day, you can also ask her for something like, “Tell me the news,” “Tell me wat happened,” or entirely something you would typically ask a virtual assistant to get an idea about what’s going on around the what.

But if you have been using Reddit on your way back home or was looking at the news online, still, when you ask Google the same question related to what you were looking up on the internet, it will most likely, most of the time, say you about the same thing because it just picks up news or just random stuff which is already famous at that time which is also pretty fair, if you are not that of a news seeker.

And one main thing to keep I mind is that this comes with the Google Assistant built-in, meaning you can pretty much get through anything that you ask it, without pulling your phone out.

You can also use your Google Home to set Reminders, Alarms, and stuff like that, making sure you get your most valuable work done without reaching for the phone. And this is an excellent, widely used feature by many people, so why not give it a try next time you have to schedule something?

Maybe you didn’t take your phone to your room and is too lazy to get out and pick it up and come back; simply ask Google Home to set up what you would set up if you’d have your phone with you at that time.

So should you buy the Google Home in 2020?

Like I’ve said above, there’s a ton of features built- into the Google Home, and there are certainly some features that you could do with it that your mobile phones cannot do at the moment, but, for the most part, if you have a phone, and is not even using the built-in Google Assistant, you might be able to use the Google Home to its full potential.

But, if you are in the game of using Virtual assistant cause its already 2020 and love to have some fun with smart devices, well, I would say it’s pretty okay to have a Google Home with you, but unfortunately, the Google Home is no longer available in 2020.

RIP Google Home.

But, if you love the Google Home ecosystem, you can check out their other fantastic Smart Speakers – The Nest Mini (2nd Gen) or the big boy Google Home Max which are the best yet from Google to make your life easier.
